Program Aide Workshop

Program Aide Pin. Bring a sack lunch.

 

Rendezvous With A Comet

 

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to check out the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska, it’s your lucky day!  Not only will girls get the chance to rendezvous with a comet; they’ll also participate in fun team-building activities.  What a great way to finish up your Girl Scout year!  (Overnight is optional.)

 

Date:    April 26, 2008 or April 26-27, 2008

 

Time:   1:00 – 4:30 PM (mission only) OR

            1:00 PM – 10:00 AM (overnight option)

 

Place:  Challenger Learning Center of Alaska, Kenai

 

Cost:    Girl: $30 for event OR $45 includes overnight in dorms.  Adult Chaperone: $5 for event OR $20 includes overnight in dorms.

 

Earn:    NASA Patch

 

Info:  Registration begins February 26 and closes March 24.  If we don’t have a minimum of 25 girls registered by March 24, the event will be canceled.  There are two options to choose from: “MISSION ONLY” or “OVERNIGHT OPTION.”  Overnight option includes the event plus overnighting in the Challenger Learning Center’s dorms.  Meals are on your own.

 

Note:  If there are enough girls on the waiting list, we’ll try to add a second mission session from 5-8:30 on the same day.

 

Rollerskating

 

Bring a girl friend who is new to Girl Scouting and receive a patch/star to add to your sash!  For more information, contact the Council office.

 

Dates: October 18, 2007 (Halloween Party – come in costume!)

Time:  6:30 – 9:00 PM

 

Place:  Dimond Skateland, Anchorage

 

Cost:  $5 for all girls (Girl Scouts and others)  Adult Chaperone: no cost

 

Info:  Do not register at the Council Office.  Bring permission slips for all girls, including friends, and plan to turn in an extra copy of friends’ permission slips at the door.  Cost includes skate rental. Cash only! Make sure girls dress warmly in the event that they may have to wait in line outside.

 

Seawolves Sports Clinic – Basketball

 

Join the Lady Seawolves Basketball team for a basketball skills clinic exclusive to Girl Scouts!  Then bring your family to the game that evening and cheer on the Lady Seawolves.  Following the game you can meet the team for a post game talk and autographs.

 

Date:   January 5, 2008

 

Time:     Clinic:  10:00 - 12 Noon

Place:   Wells Fargo Sports Complex (UAA Sports Center)

 

Cost: $5 for clinic (includes coupon for free admission to the game). 

 

Earn: Skills clinic participants complete some of the requirements for the Court Sports Badge or On the Court Interest Project Patch.

 

Info:  Registration for the clinic begins October 1 and  closes November 27.

 

Seawolves Sports Clinic – Gymnastics

 

Join the Lady Seawolves Gymnastics team for a gymnastics skills clinic.  Then cheer on the Lady Seawolves as they compete against UC Davis.  Following Sunday’s match you can meet them for a post-game talk and autographs.

Join the Lady Seawolves Volleyball team prior to the evening game for a volleyball skills clinic.  Then cheer on the Lady Seawolves as they play against Seattle Pacific (Oct. 27) or the University of Alaska Fairbanks (Nov. 10).  Following the match you can meet them for a post game talk and autographs.

Seawolves Sports Nights!

 

Girl Scouts, family and friends: cheer on UAA’s Lady Seawolves on Girl Scout Night! Just mention you’re with Girl Scouts and get admission for $4 (girls attending the skills clinics will receive a coupon for free admission to that weekend’s game). Girls are encouraged to make banners and wear Girl Scout t-shirts/uniforms or green & gold.

 

Volleyball:    October 27, 2007 (7:00—9:00 PM)

Basketball:    January 5, 2008 (7:00—9:00 PM)

Teen Summit

Destinations, Silver & Gold Awards, & More!  This is a time to connect and network with other Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, and learn about upcoming trips and events.

Time: 10 AM - 4 PM

 

Place:  Anchorage Church of Christ (2700 Debarr Road, Anchorage)

 

Cost:  $6.00 (includes lunch)

Walk-Together

 

Join the Anchorage Volkssports Club in this non-competitive event. Girl Scouts, their troops, friends, families, and dogs are welcome to walk this beautiful route (a paved bike trail) along Campbell Creek. There will be a 5.4 kilometer (3.4 miles) or 10 kilometer (6.2 miles) route, both rated “1” for “easy” on mostly level terrain. Everyone is welcome: Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors, plus troops, families, friends, and dogs.

 

Date: May 3, 2008

 

Time: start any time between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM; finish no later than 4:00 PM

 

Place: Alaska Wild Berry Products

 

Cost: Free; special Girl Scout/AVA (American Volkssport Association) patch is available for $3.50 (price has changed since program calendar was published last summer)

 

Earn: Participation patch

 

Info: The first 200 that pre-pay patches at the Council office (beginning two months prior to event date) will receive patches at the event.  Additional patches will be ordered after the event as needed.  Click here for patch pre-order form and more info.  All Girl Scouts under age 16 must be accompanied on the walk by a responsible adult.  There will be a drawing for door prizes.

 

Women of Art and Science - Soldotna

 

Explore real art mediums in the setting of an art room.  Experiment with different recipes for art mediums.  MUST PRE-REGISTER!

 

Date: February 16, 2008

 

Time:  10:00 AM - 1:45 PM

 

Place:  Soldotna High School

 

Cost:  Girl: $5  Adult Chaperone: no cost

 

Earn:  Participation Patch

Women of the Outdoors

 

Troops will attend 3 hands-on workshops with local women who work or play in the outdoors.  Possibilities include Cross Country skiing, ice skating, snow shoeing, outdoor safety and outdoor survival, dog sledding, and building snow shelters.

Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

 

Place: To be announced, Homer

 

Cost: Girl: $8  Adult Chaperone: $2 for patch, otherwise no charge

 

Earn: Participation patch, various badge requirements, depending on activities.

Women of Science & Technology – Anchorage

 

Explore the worlds of science and technology through hands-on activities in three fun workshops!  Meet local women working in science and technology-related fields.  This is many troops’ favorite event!  Girl Scouts, click here for your sign-up form.  Not a Girl Scout, but want to attend?  Click here for an individual registration form (all girls must be accompanied by an adult).

Women of Science Luncheon

 

Find out what it’s like to be a scientist!  Meet and talk with women from the fields of science & technology while you dine at the Cuddy Center on the UAA campus at the third annual Women of Science Luncheon!  Keynote speaker to be announced.

Zoo Explorers

 

Explore the Alaska Zoo in a whole new way!  Learn hands-on what life is like at the zoo by focusing on the animals, ecology and plants.

Info:  Registration begins two months prior to event date and closes the Monday prior to event date.  Leaders provide their own snack; Zoo will provide hot drinks and water.  Dress to be outdoors for part of the event.  The Try-It or Badge will be presented at the end of the evening. 

 

Robo-Scouts

 

Come on over to the University of Alaska Anchorage to cheer on your fellow Girl Scouts as they participate in their first FLL robotics tournament!  Susitna Council will have seven all-girls teams participating in the Anchorage tournament, including a Kodiak team that will be participating in a virtual tournament.
